Manual Lymphatic Drainage

What is manual Lymphatic drainage (MLD) ?

Manual Lymph drainage (MLD), was developed in 1936 in Paris by Dr Vodder and his wife. It was originally developed for treatment of swollen lymph nodes.

MLD should not be confused with traditional massage. It comprises of a gentle pressure being applied to the skin with slight stretching . This in turn helps encourage and promote movement of lymphatic fluid within the system and tissues. MLD focuses on the lymph system and fluid being moved and thereby reducing the amount of fluid (lymph) that is sitting in the body.

It is also effective as a preventative and postoperative rehabilitation treatment

MLD also increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins.

MLD may be useful in conditions such as post-traumatic and post-surgical edema and palliative care.
